Because simplicity is the ultimate form of perfection.
What do you do when you notice that your trusted (SAP) process no longer functions optimally? And why is that? Because of all the adjustments that have been made to it over the years? Does the management of that process run more and more on paper? Or do you already see the moment when your current ECC system is no longer supported? Consider whether you now have the most effective and efficient working methods in your business processes.
Imagine how much time and money you could save by streamlining your operation. For example, by using smart and lean applications that are also compatible with your SAP system.
Now and in the future
Most companies that use SAP as their ERP system have made numerous changes to their system over many years in order to make SAP as compatible as possible with their own processes. Maintaining such an implementation is becoming increasingly difficult. In addition, it is becoming increasingly difficult to respond quickly to changes in the market, because every change requires regression testing. This is to make sure that the existing functionality continues to work.
The end date of the maintenance contracts for the current ECC systems has been slightly postponed, but there will come a day when these systems will no longer be supported. Then there will have to be a migration to S4HANA. Since the introduction of S4HANA, SAP has been preaching the credo "keep the core clean", in other words: use the SAP system as much as possible as it is delivered as standard. And make sure that the adjustments that are necessary to make processes for a specific organization run as smoothly as possible, are done in an application layer outside SAP. This allows future upgrades of the SAP software to be carried out much faster.
How low can you code?
In order to be able to develop applications quickly, so-called low code platforms have been on the market for years, which have now developed into fully-fledged development and runtime environments. Because these platforms work so well, quickly and easily, it is expected that in the future more and more applications will be developed using this type of platform.
Research and advisory body Gartner even expects that:
“By 2024, low-code application development will be responsible for more than 65% of application development activity.”
What can a low-code platform do?
A low-code platform not only offers the possibility to develop an application at lightning speed (at least a factor of 10 faster than traditional development techniques), but such an application can also be used on any device that has a browser. For Android and IOS devices a native app can be generated.
This makes a low code platform ideally suited to move a functionality that is now built into the SAP system to an application layer outside. This layer then seamlessly exchanges data with the underlying SAP systems.
A migration to S4HANA is a challenging job anyway, and the more customization is incorporated in the current system, the more complex the job becomes. Therefore, it is certainly worth considering to start moving customizations to such an application layer right now. Not only can your organization gain experience with a low code platform and the great advantages that it has experienced, but also significantly reduce the migration effort to S4HANA.
How can newITera help you?
Creating added value. In doing so, newITera has been helping companies for a long time. In the first years mainly by providing consultants with a high level of knowledge of a large part of the SAP portfolio. In the course of time, numerous additional areas of expertise have been added that focus more and more on the SAP ecosystem.
In recent years, newITera has also built up strong expertise in the field of low code applications on the two leading platforms: OutSystems and Mendix. For various customers applications have been developed with and without SAP integration. Especially in the field of EAM, one of the spearheads of newITera, beautiful applications have been developed with which users can easily perform transactions in their SAP system with apps on their phone, tablet or via a web application on their laptop.
